Or mail your gift to: Following His Path Given the Millerite debacle, it is not difficult to understand why the SDA church has been considered a "fringe" religion by many folks. However, just like mainstream Protestants (and Catholics, for that matter), SDA’s believe in the major precepts of Christianity---that Jesus lived, died, and was resurrected; that Jesus is mankind's Savior, and that Jesus will return again to gather the faithful to live with him for eternity. SDA's also believe in prayer, communion and missionary work. In effect, the SDA Church believes that salvation is God's gift to humanity through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. That being said, Seventh Day Adventists have some significant theological differences that we will explore later in this article.

Following World War I, a group known as the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement was formed as a result of the actions of L. R. Conradi and certain European church leaders during the war, who decided that it was acceptable for Adventists to take part in war. Those who were opposed to this stand and who refused to join the war were declared "disfellowshipped" by the local Church leaders at the time. When the Church leaders from the General Conference came and admonished the local European leaders after the war to try to heal the damage, and bring the members together, it met with resistance from those who had suffered under those leaders. Their attempts at reconciliation failed after the war, the group became organized as a separate church at a conference held July 14–20, 1925. The movement officially incorporated in 1949.[130]
Economic DevelopmentBusiness There are approximately 14 million Seventh-day Adventists worldwide, with perhaps another 7 million people more loosely associated with the Church. There are nearly 25,000 Seventh-day Adventists in the UK, of which approximately 13,000 live in London where there are 60 congregations. (2005 statistics)

I'm actually amazed that anyone would believe such things about SDA's. In 2012, the city was ranked number one for paycheck worth by Forbes and in late May 2013, Houston was identified as America's top city for employment creation.[146][147]

Much of the city's wealthier areas vote Republican while the city's working class and minority areas vote Democratic. According to the 2005 Houston Area Survey, 68 percent of non-Hispanic whites in Harris County are declared or favor Republicans while 89 percent of non-Hispanic blacks in the area are declared or favor Democrats. About 62 percent of Hispanics (of any race) in the area are declared or favor Democrats.[197] The city has often been known to be the most politically diverse city in Texas, a state known for being generally conservative.[197] As a result, the city is often a contested area in statewide elections.[197] In 2009, Houston became the first US city with a population over 1 million citizens to elect a gay mayor, by electing Annise Parker.
